Typesafe Named Gartner "Cool Vendor" For 2012

Typesafe Named "Cool Vendor" by Leading Industry Analyst Firm

Typesafe Listed Among Industry Analyst Firm's 2012 Application Development "Cool Vendors"

Menlo Park -- April 18, 2012 -- Typesafe today announced that it has been recognized as a "Cool Vendor" in Gartner's "Cool Vendors in Application Development, 2012" report by Brian Prentice, Jim Duggan, Mark Driver and Thomas E. Murphy.

"We're honored to be recognized by Gartner as a Cool Vendor in the 2012 Application Development report," said Martin Odersky, Chairman and Chief Architect at Typesafe. "We believe this recognition is a testament to the growing interest in Scala as a technology capable of solving the very real problems of scale faced by today’s distributed applications. We will continue enhancing our stack based on the Akka middleware, the Play framework and the Scala language to help developers meet tomorrow’s challenges in multicore, parallel and cloud application design and development.”

Functional programming languages, like Scala, will play an increasingly important role in IT solutions during the next several years. Mainstream IT developers will rediscover functional programming disciplines that have been largely limited to academic research for decades.

Typesafe technologies focused on scale, including the Scala functional programming language, the Akka event-driven distributed middleware framework, and the Play web framework, will play an increasingly important role by helping developers maximize productivity in the age of multicore, domain specific languages (DSLs), and cloud application design.

Typesafe launched in May of last year with the vision of building a comprehensive and modern software stack for applications that scale. To this end, the company released the Typesafe Stack, a scalable software platform, serviced by Typesafe through the Typesafe Subscription, which includes commercial support, maintenance and deployment tools. Building on the initial launch, last month the company released Typesafe Stack 2.0, which includes a new monitoring and management tool, the innovative Play web framework and Akka event-driven middleware 2.0; with significant enhancements for building concurrent and distributed applications.

About Typesafe

Typesafe provides the most scalable software platform designed for the computing architectures of the future—multicore, parallel and cloud applications. It does this through the open source Typesafe Stack, a 100% Java compatible software suite that combines the Akka middleware framework, the Play web framework, and the Scala programming language, proven in production with some of the world’s most highly trafficked web properties including Foursquare, LinkedIn and Twitter. The company’s Typesafe Subscription complements the Typesafe Stack with commercial support, maintenance, and operations tools. Typesafe also offers training and consulting services for organizations to ease adoption of Akka, Play, and Scala. Typesafe was co-founded by Martin Odersky, the creator of Scala, and is backed by Greylock Partners.
