Typesafe Stack 1.1

We are proud to announce the release of Typesafe Stack 1.1.

The Typesafe Stack is a distribution of the Scala language and core tools, along with Akka event-driven middleware. Commercial support and maintenance for the Typesafe Stack is available via the optional Typesafe Subscription.

Typesafe Stack 1.1 includes Scala 2.9.1 and Akka 1.2.

Scala 2.9.1 is a maintenance release with many bug fixes and performance improvements, in particular to the interpreter. The full release notes for Scala 2.9.1 are available at the Scala language community site.

Akka 1.2 is also partly maintenance release paving the way for the upcoming Akka 2.0 release, but adds some new features as well. Highlights include:

• Durable actor mailboxes (File-based transaction log, Redis-based, MongoDB-based, ZooKeeper-based and Beanstalk-based)
• Richer API for Actor life-cycle management and invocation tracing
• Improved Future API
• Improved TestKit for testing Actor-based systems
• Some API changes. For example 'sendRequestReplyFuture'/'!!!' renamed to 'ask'/'?' and 'sendOneWay' renamed to 'tell'
